2 keys to be A Mig Welding Master

1st Key: Welding Parameters Adjustment

Welding parameters include welding current, voltage and gas flow

① Welding Current determines the wire feeding speed. The bigger the current is, the faster the wire feeding should be. The smaller the current is, the slower the wire feeding should be.
② Welding Voltage determines the melting speed of Mig wires. The higher the voltage is, the faster the Mig wires will melt; The lower the voltage is, the slower the Mig wires will melt.

According to the theories above, the welding current adjustment should match with the voltage, and the current should be chosen according to the thickness of weld pieces, welding wires diameters and welding positions. Normally, take 0.8mm (0.030’’) wires as example, the suitable welding current is 100A and voltage 18V (they are not fixed values, you can adjust them to some extent as long as the current matches with the voltage, and a good weld bead can be obtained).

③ Gas Flow is usually a fixed value, 15L/Min is suitable for indoor welding jobs, while bigger gas flow is needed in outdoor welding, as well as in the situation of bigger diameter wires welding.

2nd Key: Control of Welding Torches

When the welding current/voltage/gas flow are all set, there are 3 things left.
① Selection of Mig Wires: Fox Alloy Mig wires is a good choice for the industrial grade quality as well as competitive prices. 2Lbs/10Lbs pack available. 0.030’’ (0.8mm) & 0.035’’(0.9mm) wires suit your household welding jobs. It has 0.012μm thickness cooper coating, which brings very good electricity conductivity as well as good wire feeding performance. The increased melting speed means higher efficiency (3-5 times of the electrodes efficiency). The minimum spatter, less welding fume, tender arc, and good weldability make Fox Alloy ER70S-6 Mig wires a wise choice for new starters in household welding.
② Wire Extension Length (equivalent to arc length in MMA welding)
Normally the wire extension length should be 10-20mm. If the extension length is too big, there will be more spatters and the gas protection will be poor and lead to porosity. If the extension length is too small, the welding torches will block the eyesight and make you fail to see the molten pool.
③ Welding Torches Angles (equivalent to welding electrodes angles in MMA welding)
Take flat welding as example, the welding torches angles in the front and back direction should be 90 degrees and angles in left and right direction should be 70-80 degrees. By the way, your welding ability will grow gradually from every welding practice, you don’t have to be perfect from the beginning.

In the end, when New Starters learn about Mig welding, pls start with welding current/voltage/gas flow adjustment and learn to control the welding torches in practice. These are 2 keys to Mig welding, but higher grade skills can only be obtained in thousands times of practice, you have to try and try before becoming a welding expert.
